“For tomorrow belongs to the people who prepare for it today” ~African Proverb quotes
I’m less than a year away from aquiring a PhD in Literacy Leadership. It’s been a long, sleep deprived, and financially strapped haul. Am I proud? Of course I am. It took a lot of hard work and devotion, and the height of my social life was attending classes.
So… what’s the problem? I have a degree in Literacy. School systems are moving away from specific degrees and towards leadership and general education. Therefore, there’s little chance of being employed in my field. Initially I had intended to teach at the university level. Not many specific degrees needed, not many professors needed to teach in that field. So now what? What can I do with this degree that has a steep price tag attached to it? What employment opportunities are out there for me? Furthermore, what opportunities are there for all of the other PhD “handlers” in my predicament?
I guess we start a website…. We’ll see. Stay tuned!
